Alissa Turney

On May 17, 2001, at approximately 11 AM, 17-year-old Alissa Turney was last seen at Paradise Valley High School in Phoenix, Arizona. It was the final day of her junior year, a day that should have marked the start of summer break and memories with friends. Instead, it marked the beginning of a decades-long mystery.

That morning, Alissa’s stepfather, Michael Turney, signed her out of school early. According to him, the two argued after returning home. He claimed to have left her there alone around 1 PM, and when he returned later that day, he said he found a note allegedly written by Alissa, stating she was running away to California.

Michael also told police that he received a phone call from Alissa a week later from a California payphone, a call that was never verified and that no one else heard.

Despite these claims, Alissa’s personal belongings, including her cell phone, were left behind. Her bank account has remained untouched, and she has never been seen or heard from again.

Over the years, growing inconsistencies in Michael Turney’s story, along with concerning evidence discovered by investigators, have fueled suspicions about his involvement. Alissa’s case has drawn national attention, shining a light on systemic failures in missing persons investigations and the long road to justice faced by families left behind.

Sarah Turney’s Fight for Justice

Alissa’s younger sister, Sarah Turney, was only 12-years-old when her sister vanished. As she grew older, Sarah began to question the narrative she was told about Alissa’s disappearance. Determined to uncover the truth, she spent years pushing for renewed investigations and accountability.

Through tireless advocacy and her groundbreaking use of social media and podcasting, Sarah brought Alissa’s case back into the public eye. Her viral #JusticeForAlissa campaign helped reignite interest in the case and ultimately led to new investigative action and charges against Michael Turney, though the pursuit of full justice remains ongoing.

Sarah’s courage and relentless advocacy have inspired countless others to fight for their missing loved ones. Her voice continues to serve as a powerful reminder that even when justice is delayed, it should never be denied.
